Way to get this out here early. I have not even been accepted to the Picassa test and I am going to download and instal this anyway. I think it will be very useful, and I think that the Picassa web photos may even give Flickr a run for their money!
I am truly amazed, as a google fanatic, I said to my friend, I wonder how long it will take for someone to create a plugin for wordpress like flickr.
Well, I never expected to see it so soon, you have just made me very happy and impressed.
One question, how would I use this if I do not have a template that uses widgets, can I add it to my sidebar normally?
Thanks for great work!!!
Thanks guys, I got my invite to Picasa Web Albums recently and have been waiting for the invite for quite some time now. When I got it I was on a mission to get this plugin up and running ASAP. I had some help from my buddy Eric with implementing the caching code. Couldn’t have done it without him!
Nice widget. I’ve been looking for something like this using Picasa.
I’ve been waiting for this! I can’t seem to get it to work….where do I enter my rss?
Natalie, this plugin is a “widget” meaning that you have to install the widgets plugin I give a link to above. It also looks like you aren’t using WordPress which is a requirement for this plugin to work.
all I get on my page is
‘Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /home/btd/public_html/wp-content/plugins/widgets/picasaweb-matrix.php on line 101′
Whats wrong? Other widgets are working fine, picassa cache folder is chmoded 777. Wordpress 2.0.2
solved: wrong feed in configuration
Can you add usage of more than one feeds? Now your excellent plugin uses only one, so I’m limited to showing only one album.
Hey !
I’ve got this :
Warning: fopen(/homepages/38/d154843559/htdocs/iclectic/blog/wp-content/plugins/widgets/picasacache/pict0008.jpg): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /homepages/38/d154843559/htdocs/iclectic/blog/wp-content/plugins/picasaweb-matrix.php on line 56
But folders is on 777 chmod and i’ve got all my others widgets working fine , don’t know why this error message is appearing…
btd, glad you got your installation working.
Jean-Laurent, double check that the cache folder is chmod 777. Also, try emptying the cache in the cache folder and then refreshing the page. If that doesn’t work, then make sure the RSS Feed URL is from your Public Gallery Page.
An example of the correct rss url:
http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/rssUser?uname=username
Everything’s ok now, i had copied plugins files on plugin root directory, then I copy everything in widget directory and now it’s working fine !
thanks for your help and for your quick answer !!!
But if you have ’sub-albums’ in your public gallery, your script uses only those ’sub-albums’ thumbs (it doesn’t go deeper in the structure of gallery), and putting more than one feed in configuration generates errors like in my first post.
Yes, for now, this widget can only display your sub albums within your public gallery.
Stephen,
I am getting the following error when i try to install the plugin from what i can tell everything is configured correctly
Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /home/boolimec/public_html/wordpress/wp-content/plugins/widgets/picasaweb-matrix.php on line 101
any ideas what could be going on
Hi, i just installed your widget on my blog but my result is totally different from yours. Is your matrix custom modified (code or css)? Your cached pictures have all the same size and are well arrenged. I got a bunch of pictures with differnt size and height. I would appreciate it if you could tell me the secret of your good looking matrix.
I am getting error messages about line 56, 59, and 101. Have the CHMOD for the folder on 777, folder and php in the widget directory and I have tried every feed there is, still can’t get it to go. Am I missing something with getting the images into the cache folder?
It sounds interesting. How do I use it? After upload and activation folder creation I don’t find any option on the control panel.
Never mind, got it. Thanks a lot for the plug in. it is great.
I have the same pb as Matt have, the url is correct and files are at the right place with right privileges. Don’t know what could be wrong.
Hi!
I would like to use your plugin but I don’t know how… I installed the sidebar widget plugin and uploaded the files to …/plugins/widgets/
After that i set the picasacache directory (chmod 777)…
But no image is loaded… and an error occour… array_rand() something, and I dont know how to solve that.
I think i have configurated correctly the picasa web matrix with my rss feeder..

Thanks for the help in advance.
Please feel free to cantact me by e-mail.
Any more support related comments, please redirect to the new support forum for the themes and plugins. Thanks! I have limited time to help, and I see alot of people are having similiar problems.
Hi
I can not fix this problem. I checked and chmod 777 on picasacache is ok but I’m still getting this errors.

Warning: array_rand(): First argument has to be an array in /usr/export/www/hosting/cardila/wordpress/wp-content/plugins/widgets/picasaweb-matrix.php on line 90

Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /usr/export/www/hosting/cardila/wordpress/wp-content/plugins/widgets/picasaweb-matrix.php on line 101
Can sombody help me
thanks in advance
Wow, that is nice widget, i really appreciate, but how many knows, even with Riya photo recongniser you could do much more than Picasa, check out riya too, it has inbuild widget like this. However, this one also very good, i will try it today and then get back to you.
Great plugin. Worked not straight away, but I did it. Thanks for the work
I do have some questions. Is there anything planed for the future? Because right now I only have a some pictures in the sidebar. The biggest aim for me would be if the full gallery would be loaded into my main site without opening Picasaweb itself.
Keep going.
Where do I add my picasa public gallery url, please? Do I have to alter code?
I’ve installed, chmod, but have NO idea where to enter URL from public page. Any help would be appreciated. thank you!
How to implementing css on the widget? I want to resize and add border and hover style.
1. Where do I put my rss url in the php script?
2. Is there anything else I’m supposed to be editing in the sidebar menu or css declarations?
I am a .NET programmer (don’t hate me) and still haven’t gotten the hang of the WordPress PHP environment.
I was just wondering about this error. Can’t seem to make this work.
Warning: require_once(/home/iamlitco/public_html/blog/wp-includes/rss-functions.php) [
function.require-once
]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/iamlitco/public_html/blog/wp-content/plugins/widgets/picasaweb-matrix.php on line 18
My album is at http://picasaweb.google.com/poormaniac
Can someone help?
Great and usefull,thanks。
Hi, this plugin does not seem to work any more. Ive included it in my blog and used the RS feed as per reported by Picassa (http://picasaweb.google.com/data/feed/base/user/jvicinanza?category=album)
Any idea what the problem is?
Thanks
Jason
Widget doesn’t work. Google changed the way the RSS is displayed and it does not work …
No longer works, Google have changed and enhanced the RSS feeds they supply.
This widget needs fixing
I am truly amazed, as a google fanatic, I said to my friend, I wonder how long it will take for someone to create a plugin for wordpress like flickr.
I’ve updated this plugin for new Google format. Also minor bugs were fixed. You may get and try it - http://tedbeer.net/files/PicasaWebMatrix2007.zip
I’ve just started putting my WP site together, and I greatly appreciate TedBeer updating the code so that this wonderful widget once agains functions properly. 1 drawback i see however is that when you attempt to show multiple “albums” the widget can only grab the first 3 in your public directory. I cannot get it to display the rest of them. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
nevermind… I Apologize, got it working
Hi, I found some bugs in the newest version. It wouldn’t work with photos with spaces or dots in the name, nor would multiple feeds would on Windows.
I’ve updated the plugin and fixed the bugs
download it here
http://www.bencoleman.co.uk/picasa-sidebar-widget/
Thanks Ben, I’ll update the zip file on my end. If anyone finds any other bugs, feel free to help keep this plugin updated!
XHTML 1.1 Fixes for latest version (as of 06/02/07):
1. Add a backslash to the img tag “/>”
2. Delete the div and ul tags (lines 102, 103, 117, 118)
3. Suggestion to change the class in the readme for an ID, it’s a lot more usable than the class. With the class, you can’t put a border to the image.
Optional: If there is no alt, then add “Picasa Web Album” or something, all images need an alt.
Well, that’s it, amazing plugin
apparently there is a delay on the RSS feed from Picasa… the reason I was only getting 1 image is that Picasa’s RSS still only refected 1 album
There seems to be a bug where photos aren’t displayed if they were uploaded as PSDs. Obviously they’re converted to jpegs when uploaded by Picasa, but I think having “psd” in the thumbnail URL confuses the web matrix.
Also, please implement the changes suggested by Stahn…this plugin is preventing my page from being standard XHTML.
