Send dammit!

Tuesday, May 13th, 2008

So I’ve run into a problem alot lately with working in foreign wifi networks. Sending via SMTP in Thunderbird. Turns out alot of networks block port 25 which is used to send in most email clients. This is due to spam. I researched and found SMTP.COM. Sign up and they’ll give you an SMTP working off of port 2525 instead of 25. This solves everything! So far it’s very fast and responsive.

activeCollab “Simple theme

I’ve released “acSimple,” which is a theme for activeCollab. If you don’t know what activeCollab is, it’s a free web-based project management system you can host yourself. A great alternative to fee-based Basecamp.

Just a few I use are:

Google Notebook

Thursday, June 29th, 2006

Found in the Google labs, this new Firefox extension called “Notebook.” It’s actually really cool, you can select any text, picture or website link and “add it to the notebook.” It then displays all of your noted items on a simply laid out interface. What’s nice is that it’s all saved in your gmail account, so you can access it from any computer. Pretty slick!

Blinksale Invoicing

Thursday, June 8th, 2006

Finally, a decent solution for online invoicing. I’ve been looking for Blinksale for quite some time now. Very similiar in simplicity and design to 37signals’ products. Free for up to 3 invoices a month, or other plans starting as cheap as $12/month. Not bad for the usefullness of the service.
