Picasa Web Albums 0

Picasa Web Albums

This is basically Google’s version of Flickr. I just got my invite to it today along with my sister. We’re uploading pictures as I type. The basic features are:

  • 250mb of free storage (which is a great amount for free!)
  • $25/year upgrade to 6gb of storage (which is also great)
  • You can add favorites to your account and there’s a latest activity box that shows all the latest uploads
  • User commenting on each picture
  • NO SUB ALBUMS (a feature i wish Flickr and this new service had)
  • Integrates with your google account. For instance, when you “share” an album you can start typing the name of the person you want to send it to, and it will automatically bring up the person via your gmail contacts
  • You use the new version of Picasa to batch upload. Very nice interface, easy to use.
  • User icons
  • You can specify Public Gallery or Private Gallery
  • Sorts albums according to capture date using exif data

The way I got my invite was I just gave them my email. Took about 4 days, and I got my invite. Visit the site here: http://picasaweb.google.com/

Flickr Cracks Down on Screenshots 0

But screenshots are SOOO COOL!

Uploading those types of images is fine, explained Flickr co-founder Stewart Butterfield. But when more than half of an account holder’s images are screenshots or other NIPSA content, the images generally will not show up in global search results.

“The rationale is that when people do a global search on Flickr, they want to find photos,” Butterfield said.
